This species occurs in semi-arid regions and in mountains of the Western Palearctic, having its distribution around the Mediterranean areas where the climate is warm and the winters are smooth (Real & Mañosa 1992). It is often seen in regions of steep slopes where the human disturbance is reduced and the vegetation is composed of natural or semi-natural Mediterranean formations (Del Hoyo 1994, Sánchez et al. 1996, Snow & Perrins 1998).
