The group of birds of the cliffs includes all species that frequently use the rocky environments to breed. This group of birds may select sharp ravines, marine cliffs, mountain crests and the top of the hills, among others, to nest.
In the Natural Park of the Douro International (PNDI) we can find several breeding cliff species like the Black stork Ciconia nigra, the Egyptian vulture Neophron percnopterus, the Bonelli’s eagle Aquila fasciata, the Peregrine falcon Falco peregrinus, the Golden eagle Aquila chrysaetus, the Eurasian Eagle Owl Bubo bubo, the Black wheatear Oenanthe leucura, the Red-billed Chough Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax and the Alpine Swift Apus melba.
Being the most representative group of birds of this region, the PNDI has developed a monitoring and conservational project focused on these species.
